An Evening of Poetry, Jazz & Blues in Detroit's Historic Paradise Valley
Wed Dec 9, 2009 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm EST
311 E. Grand River
(in the heart of Downtown Detroit)
Detroit, MI 48226
Al Young returns to his sweet home Detroit to perform poetry in a kicking trio setting led by the great bassist Marion Hayden. Joining them will be poet-scholar Melba Joyce Boyd whose REVOLUTION AND ROSES, an annotated collection of poetry and prose by the legendary Dudley Randall, Detroit's first poet laureate, has just been published. Elegantly located in the storied Paradise Valley -- where jazz, blues and other vernacular musics thrived in the Motor City during the middle of the last century -- the Virgil H. Carr Cultural Arts Center will provide the perfect ambiance for what promises to be a passionate and reflective Wednesday night of heartfelt lyricism and song.
