The Color of Coloratura-Federal Way Symphony

A Montana native, Megan Chenovick came to the Northwest to pursue her B.A. in Music & Theatre with the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington. Recently Megan sang the role of Mařenka in the Bartered Bride with the Auburn Symphony conducted by Stewart Kershaw of the Pacific Northwest Ballet. The Seattle Times noted “Chenovick’s effortless, well trained and very pretty soprano fit [her] role well.” In December Megan returned to the Auburn Symphony as the soprano soloist in Handel’s Messiah & Other Seasonal Music.
In 2008 Megan was named a winner in the Western Washington Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions having received an Encouragement Award from the MONC in 2007. Megan went on to compete in the Met Regional Auditions in February of 2009.
Recent roles include the Tacoma Opera Young Artist Program Showcase, Annina in La Traviata, Aninku in Brundibár with Music of Remembrance, Leila in The Pearl Fishers, Elvira in I Puritani and Nedda in Pagliacci for the Seattle Opera Guild Previews, Musetta (cover) in Skagit Opera’s La Bohème, as well as Barbarina in The Marriage of Figaro for Skagit Opera and Washington East Opera.
She recently played the role of Magnolia in Show Boat with the Village Theatre.
Megan is a 2008 Sun Valley Opera Competition Finalist, 2006 & 2007 Michael Mitchell Memorial Scholarship recipient, 2007 & 2008 Ladies Musical Club Solo Competition Finalist, 2007 Alan Lund Scholarship recipient, and 2007 & 2008 recipient of a training fund grant from the Seattle Opera Guild.
