Native Lands In Native Hands: Wounaan Land Tenure and Conservation in Panama
DESCRIPTION
The Wounaan indigenous people are one of Panama's seven indigenous peoples. They live in small communities spread throughout Panama's dense eastern rainforests, which they rely upon for their livelihood and cultural identity. This presentation will discuss the threats to these forests, and recent efforts the Wounaan have made to preserve them.
BIO
Zachary McNish is an associate with Alston Hunt Floyd & Ing. He graduated from the Duke University School of Law in 2006. Prior to law school, he served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Republic of Panama, where he lived and worked with the Wounaan.
